EC extends date for voters’ list

The Election Commission of India has extended the date for making claims and objections to December 15.

Chief Electoral Officer V. Candavelou in a release said the EC to improve the fidelity of electoral rolls and to provide better electoral services to electors, maximise registration and to enrol the left out electors during earlier elections. The date for completing the procedure has been extended to December 15. The Booth Level Officers during house-to-house visits would collect family details of electors, door number, mobile number, mobile type and android, email ID to provide better services relating to electoral rolls.

Besides, the BLOs would issue and collect applications for inclusion of electors who were left out during last revisions/corrections of any in entry of electoral rolls/ removal of dead and shifted electors/enrol the electors who are absent from his place of ordinary residence in India owing to employment, education or otherwise outside India/ collect details of overseas electors who are already enrolled in electoral rolls.

As a pilot project, the BLOs would capture voter information and the latitude and longitude of household information through mobile application in Raj Bhavan, Orleanpet, Karaikal (South), Mahe and Yanam constituencies.

The final publication of electoral rolls will be made on January 10 next year.
