EC appeals to Puducherry voters through SVEEP

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 24, the Chief Electoral Officer has appealed to the public to exercise their franchise.

The election commission has been trying to approach voters through the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.

Nodal officer of SVEEP, S. Sezhian Babu said that the department has enrolled volunteers from NSS unit of the Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Postgraduate Studies to conduct a door to door appeal to voters to cast their vote..

A study of the voting patterns in the 2009 Lok Sabha Election and the 2011 Assembly elections has revealed that there is less participation in the Raj Bhavan segment, Kamaraj Nagar segment, parts of Nellithope and Kadirkamam.

A cultural tableau was staged by SVEEP in the main areas in Puducherry . to promote voter participation, he said. Cases have been booked against the NR Congress in Orleanpet and Congress in Villianur for conducting rallies without permission from the election authorities.

According to a release from the CEO, arrangements have been made for drinking water, toilets, queue sheds and ramps at the polling stations to ensure voter comfort.
