The Puducherry Municipality on Saturday prohibited the public from bringing pet dogs during morning and evening hours into the Beach Promenade.
Commissioner R.Chandrasekaran said, “The municipality has been receiving several complaints from public and beach walkers on the nuisance of stray dogs, and pet dogs accompanying walkers. So we decided to ban bringing pet dogs between 5.a.m and 8.a.m and between 5 p.m and 10 p.m. However, pet dogs with licence from municipality are allowed in the remaining hours.”

Veterinary Medical Officer of Puducherry Municipality, Dr. K. Coumarane said residents who live within the municipal limits should compulsorily obtain licence from the municipality for rearing pet dogs and cats under Pondicherry Municipality Act 1973.
Residents can obtain licences from Veterinary Medical wing.
The municipal commissioner also warned that pet animals would be seized if the owners failed to obtain licences.

On Saturday morning under Clean India Campaign Programme, a massive drive was launched by the Commissioner to remove the waste piled up inside rock boulders on Puducherry beach.
Mr. Chandrasekaran, other officials and around 250 staff of Puducherry Municipality participated in drive from 7.30 a.m to 9.30 a.m. They also removed the wastes such as tetra packs, pet, plastic from the rock boulders.
The officials said around three ton of waste was removed during this drive. Such drives would be conducted regularly, an official added.
