The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has decided to extend support to the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) candidate R.K.R. Anantharaman in Puducherry.

The convenor of local unit of DMDK R. Selvaraj told reporters here on Friday that the party leadership had said that it would extend support to PMK in Puducherry. Hence, the DMDK would work for the victory of PMK candidate Mr. Anantharaman.

He added that no party except the PMK should use the name and flag of the DMDK in Puducherry. If they found anyone using it, they would lodge a complaint with the election authorities for suitable action.

The DMDK is the 3 constituent of the National Democratic Alliance to support the PMK candidate in Puducherry. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party, which had declared that the Puducherry seat was allotted to All India N.R. Congress in the NDA, is the only party that is supporting AINRC candidate R. Radhakrishnan.

There are reports that the PMK leadership has demanded the BJP high command to change its decision to support AINRC. If the BJP agrees to it, the AINRC will be left alone.
