‘Dalits who relocated to Puducherry denied rights’

The Untouchability Eradication Front has urged the Puducherry Government to grant equal rights to Dalits who had relocated to Puducherry after 1964.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a conference organised by the Untouchability Eradication Front recently.

Speaking at the conference, V. Perumal, CPI (M) Tamil Nadu State executive committee member said Dalits who had relocated to Puducherry after 1964 still have no reservation in education or employment.

As a result, seats reserved for Scheduled Caste are often converted into general category and not given to these candidates.

In another resolution the conference demanded inclusion of Dalit Christians in the Scheduled Caste list, internal reservation for Arunthathiyars, one per cent reservation for Scheduled Tribes and to spend funds under Special Component Plan for dalits.
