Counselling for biology courses hit

Confusion over quota for children of ex-servicemen

Counselling for biology-based degree courses was delayed on Monday as confusion prevailed over reservation for special category.

Government of Puducherry has fixed 3% reservation for the wards of ex-servicemen for all the biology-based courses, except medical and dental seats. When the counselling for special category began, it was found that only 1% reservation was given. “This led to chaos in the Centralised Admission Committee office. After requesting to alter the seat matrix, the Centac officials ensured that 3% reservation was provided and the counselling started late,” said V. Bala of Pondicherry State Students and Parents Welfare Association.

Centac Co-ordinator P.T. Rudra Goud said that there was confusion over reservation but it was sorted out and counselling was completed without any glitches.

The first round of biology-based degree courses counselling for government quota seats was conducted from 9 a.m. onwards on Monday. “The total number of candidates who attended the session was 150 and seats were allotted to various colleges and courses based on merit, category, choice and availability. The students who have been allotted seats should join the college latest by August 28,” said a press release issued by Centac. Mr. Goud added that the second round of counselling for engineering courses would be held on August 30 and 31.
