Congress announces office-bearers in Puducherry

The move is aimed at revamping the party from the grassroots’ level and in keeping with the decision taken recently at the PCC meeting, a senior functionary said.

In a shake-up to strengthen the Congress which faced defeat at the hands of the ruling AINRC in the 2014 Parliamentary polls, the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee has announced a list of office bearers in charge for all the 30 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory.

The move is aimed at revamping the party from the grassroots’ level and in keeping with the decision taken recently at the PCC meeting, a senior functionary said.

The top guns in the list of office bearers include senior Congress leader and former Union Minister for State V. Narayanasamy, who has been appointed in charge of Mudaliarpet constituency, and former Chief Minister and leader of opposition V. Vaithilingam who has been given charge of Kamaraj Nagar and Thirubhuvanai.

The other notable office bearers include PCC chief A.V Subramaniam (Uppalam) and MLAs E. Valsaraj (Mahe), Malladi Krishna Rao (Yanam), A. Namassivayam (Villianur and Mannadipet), D. Jayakumar (Mangalam), K. Lakshminarayanan (Rajbhavan and Muthialpet), P.R.N. Thirumurugan (Karaikal North).
