Member of National Commission for Scheduled Castes P.M. Kamalamma on Monday chaired a high level review meeting with officials of the Puducherry government at the Collectorate here to discuss issues relating to SCs in the Union Territory.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Kamalamma asked officials to ensure proper implementation of schemes announced for the Scheduled Caste beneficiaries under the Special Component Plan since Puducherry was a small Union Territory. She also asked the officials of the Adi-dravidar Department to provide details on the status of various schemes and the lapses in implementation. The commission also reviewed the benefits available to SC students in Government run education institutions. Ms. Kamalamma received memorandums from various organisations relating to atrocities committed against Dalits.

District Collector S. Sundaravadivelu said the housing subsidy of Rs 4 lakhs provided by the Department of Adi-dravidar Welfare to SC families for construction of houses had benefited 968 persons up to March 2014.
