Chidambaram temple gets RO plant, battery-operated vehicle

Equipment installed at the temple as part of NLC India’s CSR activities

Devotees at the Chidambaram Nataraja temple will now have better facilities, thanks to a corporate social responsibility initiative by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC India Limited).

The facilities are a modern Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant and a smokeless battery operated vehicle.

R. Vikraman, Director (HR), NLC, formally commissioned the facilities and handed over the control keys to representatives of the temple.

The modern water purifying plant costing ₹11 lakh can purify 1,000 litres of water in an hour. The maintenance of the plant for the next three years will be undertaken by the company who has supplied the machinery. Likewise, the smokeless battery-operated vehicle, purchased at a cost of ₹9 lakh can transport seven passengers and will be maintained for the next five years by the vendor.

Focus on potable water

“The initiatives of the company under CSR is mainly focussing on potable and irrigation water for the people and the plants,” Mr. Vikraman said.

Considering the requirements of devotees, the water purifying plant and the vehicle for the senior citizens have been provided for the temple. Based on the request of the temple management, arrangements are being made to instal a bore well on the temple premises, he added.

N.R. Shanmugam Dikshithar, Assistant Secretary, Arulmigu Natarajar Thiru Kovil Podhu Dikshadars, formally received the water purifying plant and the battery-operated vehicle on behalf of the temple. R. Mohan, CGM (CSR), J. Peter James, GM (CSR), senior officials of NLC India Limited, representatives of the temple and devotees participated in the function.
