Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister V. Narayanasamy on Wednesday said the party would seek a CBI probe into instances of increasing number of students gaining admission to private medical colleges in Puducherry under the government quota meant for local students.
Speaking to reporters, he said already six cases had been reported in Puducherry where students had submitted fake certificates declaring them as native of Puducherry while they belonged to Tamil Nadu.
The six students had not satisfied the requirement of minimum period of residence for admission under government quota.

The present probe by Revenue authorities was only an eyewash and would not render justice. A probe by the CBI alone would bring to light irregularities.
Mr. Narayanasamy alleged that some officials and those close to Ministers were involved in the racket of issuing fake certificates and several lakhs of rupees was netted by them.
“We will wait for a week’s time for the government to take action and if there is no initiative on the part of the government to order for a CBI enquiry we will directly approach the CBI to conduct the probe.”

He said he had received letters from various students stating that though they were genuine candidates they were not able to get seats due to the issue of fake certificates to ineligible persons.
The report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) for the fiscal 2012-13 revealed several irregularities and corrupt practices to the tune of Rs.42 crore in the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in Puducherry. Barring three PSUs, the remaining were reeling under heavy losses.
The government had also not spent the entire budget allocation. The government had spent only Rs. 3,580 crore out of the allotted Rs. 5,700 crore, he said.
