Centac yet to fix date for medical counselling

Today is the last date to submit applications for MBBS, BDS courses

With July 18 being the last date to submit applications for MBBS and BDS courses on all India basis, the Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) is yet to fix the date for counselling.

Information from the Department of Health and Family Welfare states that nearly 1,568 students in Puducherry have cleared the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET). Parents Associations in Puducherry claimed that the students who have studied State syllabus will have difficulty in admissions as CBSE students have bagged the first 255 ranks.

Fee Committee chairman, Justice S. Rajeswaran said that the government had sent him a request in June to prepare the fee structure for the management quota seats.

“We have prepared the fee structure for management quota seats and submitted it to the government. This will be applicable only from this academic year,” he said.

The admission process for undergraduate medical and dental courses last academic year was mired in controversy as the medical institutions charged unreasonably hefty fees in violation of the fee structure fixed by the fee committee.

Against this backdrop, the government is taking measures to keep the process transparent.

The government has stated that this academic year they would announce the fee structure before the counselling dates are fixed.
