Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, who was the main drive behind the latest initiative to make wearing helmets mandatory, took to the streets once again to educate people on the need to wear the head-gear while riding a two-wheeler.

After uploading videos of two-wheeler riders commuting in the town without any safety, Ms. Bedi, while on her way to a function on Sunday evening, stopped at Thattanchavady and personally advised two-wheeler riders to wear helmets for their welfare.

In a WhatsApp message to reporters, Ms. Bedi said every fatal accident had a long-term medical, financial, legal and personal implication. An injury to head can be caused to the rider for no fault of his.

Wearing helmets could definitely save the person from a head injury in an accident, she said.

As per the court order, the State was duty-bound to safeguard the rights of citizens by compelling them to wear helmets, she said.

“There should not be any politics in showing obedience and respect to law. Even a child today knows the benefits of wearing a helmet,” Ms Bedi said.
