Government enters into contract with Swatchada Corporation

Government on Wednesday entered into an agreement with Bangalore- based company Swatchada Corporation for cleaning and disposal of municipal solid waste in the Puducherry, Oulgaret Municipalities and other adjoining areas to the city.

A few months ago, Puducherry Urban Development Agency, had invited e-tenders from the eligible firms who were willing to perform the work of collection and transportation of municipal solid waste (MSW) for the entire Urban Agglomeration area, which consists of Puducherry Municipal limits, Oulgaret Municipal limits and areas of Ariankuppam and Villianur Commune Panchayats.

The Government decided to award the contract to Swatchada Corporation which was the lowest bidder.

On Wednesday, Local Administration Director P.T. Rudra Goud and proprietor of Swatchada Corporation Banumurthy Reddy signed the agreements.

It was done in the presence of Chief Minister N.Rangasamy and Local Administration Minister N.G.Pannirselvam.

As per the agreement, the MSW stored in each house/commercial unit will be collected from door to door by engaging tricycle, tipper etc along the streets and lanes.

The MSW will be transferred into secondary storage bins, which are compactor compatible. Later it will be transported to dump yard at Kurumbapet.Rudra Goud told The Hindu , “The Swatchada Corporation will collect garbage and transport to Kurumbapet dump yard. Another consultant will be selected shortly for processing the garbage.”

The Swatchada Corporation will be paid Rs.1782 per ton for cleaning and disposing MSW. It is expected to dispose around 400 tonnes.
