Urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lend an ear to the Tamil Nadu farmers protesting in Delhi

In solidarity: Auto drivers staging a protest in front of Head Post Office in Puducherry on Thursday, seeking relief for drought-hit and debt-ridden farmers.

The Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) Auto-Rickshaw Workers’ Union staged a protest on Thursday urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide drought relief to farmers and agricultural workers in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

“With no help from the government and mounting debts, our farmers are committing suicide. Farmers from Tamil Nadu have been protesting for the past one month in Delhi demanding justice. But, the Prime Minister has not even met them and listened to their woes,” they said.

The protesters added that the Prime Minister should address the issues of farmers and demanded that the government take measures to waive off all farm loans immediately and nationalise rivers by linking them.

They alleged that the Central government failed to set up the Cauvery Water Management Board (CWMB) to regulate and monitor water distribution. “The Centre should take measures to set up the board and provide Cauvery water to the farmers in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry,” the protesters demanded.
