At the special job mela held at the Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School at Sankarapuram near here recently, Rural Industries Minister P. Mohan handed over the appointment orders to as many as 2,486 candidates.
In the mela, 97 leading private companies, including the MRF, Panasonic, TVS, India Cements and Dharani Sugars, participated. The Minister said that the event was organised on the direction of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa as part of the endeavour to create avenues for the economic advancement of the educated youth.
A total number of 9,874 candidates, including 5,343 men and 4,531 women, attended the camp. Those found eligible were given on-the-spot appointment orders. In the past three years 94,58,161 candidates had registered their names with the employment offices across the State.

They included the SSLC and the Plus Two completed students numbering 48,45,901 who enrolled their names online through the respective schools with the employment offices. During the period the government had given a dole amounting to Rs. 5.75 crore to 95,571 candidates registered with the employment offices for the past five years.
The Minister further said that the Chief Minister had proposed to provide own buildings to 20 employment offices, including the one in Villupuram. On the occasion, District Collector V. Sampath, Sub-Collector Subodh Kumar and executives from the private concerns participated.
