DMK president M.K. Stalin on Thursday charged the All India N.R. Congress leader N. Rangasamy of meting out injustice to Puducherry by aligning with the BJP.

Campaigning for Congress candidate A. John Kumar in Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency, where a bypoll is due on October 21, Mr. Stalin said the BJP ruled Centre was trying to put obstacles to the decisions taken by the Union Territory government.

“The BJP rules Tamil Nadu ‘directly’ but in Puducherry it has indirect control over through the Lt. Governor,” he said.

The Lt. Governor was posing hurdles in the implementation of welfare schemes such as distribution of free rice and clothing materials, he alleged.

Mr. Stalin said former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was highly critical of AINRC after the party refused to include AIADMK in the ministry after fighting the 2011 Assembly elections together.

“Jayalalithaa had called Mr. Rangasamy a betrayer then,” he recalled.
