AIADMK MLAs on Monday staged a walkout after registering their strong protest against the alleged failure of the ruling All India NR Congress government to keep the promises made earlier on the floor of the Assembly. Even as the Lieutenant Governor, A.K. Singh, was addressing on the first day of the budget session, the AIADMK MLAs led by Deputy Leader A. Anbalagan were on their feet protesting against the government for not implementing the promises made in the previous budgets.

Later speaking to reporters, Mr. Anbalagan said that the government had failed to implement free rice scheme in a just and fair manner. Employees in government owned Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) had not been paid salary for several months. The Opposition MLAs charged the ruling government of showing discrimination in implementation of various schemes and in providing employment opportunities. He said that there was no point in merely adhering to the convention of the Lieutenant Governor presenting the customary address while the government was letting down people.
