: Members belonging to various associations and political parties on Monday participated in a protest meeting held at Jeeva Thidal here to show their solidarity with author Perumal Murugan who was forced to renounce writing after his novel ‘Madhorubhagan' came under attack by sectarian outfits.

The activists led by former Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) MLA D. Ravikumar raised slogans against the threat being posed to Mr. Perumal Murugan by a few religious and caste outfits.

The protesters said that the threat by some caste and religiously fundamentalist outfits and the burning of his book were all part of an attempt to crush freedom of expression.
