Awards presented to former employees as part of NLCIL’s 61st Raising Day celebrations

NLC India Limited celebrated its 61st Raising Day as Gratitude Day with the usual festivity and enthusiasm as employees recalled the historic occasion when former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru launched mining operations on May 20, 1957.

Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL commenced the celebration by hoisting the NLCIL flag in the presence of former CMD M.P Narayanan on the lawns of Lignite Hall, Block-11, Neyveli.

NLCIL honoured 10 senior-most retired employees who served the organisation in the initial years with mementoes and 12 employees with “exemplary award” as an acknowledgement of their exceptional contributions during challenging times.

The CMD announced a special gift for all employees as performance reward in taking the NLCIL forward in power generation and mining for the 2016-17 fiscal. Formally, 10 employees and 10 contract employees were given gifts.

In his Gratitude Day address, Mr. Acharya paid tribute to the relentless efforts of the earlier stalwarts and employees of the company in laying the growth path of the organisation on all fronts.

Mr. Acharya stated that as an organisation, the NLCIL continued to strive for success on all fronts by surmounting harsh changes in power and mining market scenarios and business dynamics.

Complimenting the contributions of employees past and present, he said the organisation should make a name for itself by its excellence rather than its existence and should be a vibrant social entity.

Narayanan, the Guest of Honour, praised various CSR initiatives of the organisation, especially desilting ponds in peripheral villages.

He also announced a ₹one lakh sponsorship as corpus fund for Sneha Opportunity Services. Functional directors Subir Das, V. Thangapandian, P. Selvakumar and R.Vikraman extended their felicitations.

Earlier, as part of commemoration of the birth centenary year-long celebrations of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay at NLCIL, a well-developed ‘Lumbini Park’ with a 350-m walkway and play equipment and fountain at a cost of ₹17 lakh was opened at Block-27 by Mr. Acharya. A reverse osmosis plant with a capacity of 1,000 litres per hour was also launched.

Mr. Narayananan inaugurated ‘Saravna Theertham,’ a redeveloped pond with an area of 2 acres at a cost of ₹30 lakh at Villudayanpattu Temple at Neyveli .

Portal for workers

The NLCIL launched a Contract Labour Management System web portal as part of Digital India Programme for the benefit of contractors and workers to easily check the status of their bills and contributions such as PF,EPF and ESI. Senior officials, employees, representatives of trade unions and welfare associations attended the programme with great enthusiasm and cherished the cultural programmes presented.
