Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday distributed relief materials to villagers who were affected due to flooding in Cuddalore and Puducherry.

Terming the rain damage as a huge tragedy, Mr. Gandhi called for a more strident response from Governments at the State and Centre to deal with the situation.

"I would like to see the Centre and State governments being more aggressive in helping these people. It is more important that we should reach out to people who are in need", said Mr. Gandhi.

Addressing reporters after visiting the flood-hit village of Karaikkadu in Cuddalore, Mr. Gandhi said the National Herald case against him and Congress president Sonia Gandhi was "a case of of political vendetta".

He added that such actions could not deter him from raising questions about the Union Government.

"This is the way the Union Govt goes about trying to silence me and stop me from asking questions. It will not happen and i will continue to ask questions and put pressure on the Union Government," he said.
