85 per cent of free laptops distributed to students

The ruling All India NR Congress Government has distributed over 85 per cent of free laptops, which were targeted to be given to 11,748 students of government schools.

The officials of Department of School Education said they would complete the distribution of free laptop before the end of this month.

At Kamban Kalaiarangam on Friday, Mr. Rangasamy distributed free laptops to 539 students of three schools. He said his government is determined to implement all programmes promised to student community and more fund has been allocated to education. The Chief Minister said his government has been taking all out efforts to achieve 100 per cent literacy and make the Union Territory a hub for education. He added that from next year, free laptops would be distributed to XI standard students as well.

Local Administration Minister N.G. Pannirselvam, Education Minister T. Thiagarajan, Congress MLA K. Lakshmi Narayanan, School Education Director L. Kumar and other officials were present.
