‘Union govt. to sanction ₹500 cr. for Karaikal Jipmer campus’

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Saturday said the Union Ministry of Shipping has promised to provide ₹300 crore to build infrastructure at the port.

Addressing Congress workers on the occasion of the birthday of party president Sonia Gandhi, the Chief Minister said he had met Union Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari regarding inauguration of the port. Mr. Gadkari had agreed to inaugurate the facility and provide Central assistance for additional infrastructure, Mr. Narayanasamy said.

The Centre had also agreed to sanction around ₹500 crore to construct a building for the Jipmer campus in Karaikal. The institution now functions from a building of the PWD on Beach Road. Mr. Narayanasamy said the Union Health Ministry had promised to start the construction of the building by February next. Taking a dig at the principal Opposition party, AINRC, for its claim to form a government here, Mr. Narayanasamy said the AINRC does not know how many of its legislators are with the party.

‘Bright future for Cong.’

The Chief Minister was optimistic that the Congress would emerge victorious in the Gujarat elections and that would pave the way for the revival of the party in the general elections next year.

Predicting a bright future for the Congress, he said attempts to dislodge his government would not succeed. Minister for Public Works Department A. Namassivayam, Social Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy and Government whip R.K.R Anantharaman were present.
