The Puducherry Government has issued orders for the premature release of 10 life-convicts who completed 14 years of imprisonment, following the recommendation of an Advisory Board.
According to the order issued on May 23, in exercise of the powers conferred by Sections 432(1) and 433(b) of Criminal Procedure Code 1973 read with rules 329,330,334 of the Puducherry Prison Rules 1969 and also on the recommendations of the Advisory Board, the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Puducherry “was pleased to award ‘government remission’ for 10 life-convicts”.
The names of the convicts who got remission are: P.Pasupathy, R.Raja, V.Manjini, P.Bharathi, Kanagamani alias Kattandi, B.Selvam, A. Anbu alias Chezhian, F.Raji, A.Pinagupani and S. Sankar alias Suresh.

All were sentenced to life by trial courts after they were convicted in different criminal cases. Nine were confined in Central Prison, Kalapet, while one at sub-jail in Karaikal.
The Advisory Board also imposed stringent conditions while recommending the release . They should report to the Station House Officer of respective police stations on the first day of every month and they should be under the supervision of Station House Officer of the respective police stations.
They should not associate with bad characters or lead a dissolute life. They should be of good behaviour and should not commit any offence.

They should not ordinarily reside in the respective police station limits and should not leave the area without permission from Station House Officer, the order said.
“They are ordered to be set free forthwith subject to strict observance of the conditions stipulated,” said the order of government which is dated May 23.
