Residents in various parts of the city staged protests against the move to set up liquor outlets in their neighbourhood. Residents in New Mullai Nagar, Ganapathy, staged a protest on Friday morning after they received reports that the Tasmac administration had planned to open an outlet there. Former Councillors Krishnasamy, Subramaniam, and Gunalan led the protest.
Residents of Veerakeralam staged a protest against the delay in shifting an outlet functioning on Thondamuthur Road. They, along with Aidwa blocked road condemn the delay in shifting the shop. They had protested twice earlier and on both the occasions they were told that the shop would be moved out of the locality.
In Kurumbapalayam, Eachanari, residents staged a protest against the move to open a liquor shop on Madukkarai Market Road. They said that the move would disturb the peace in the locality and posed a law and order challenge. MDMK’s State youth wing secretary V. Eswaran led the protests.

Woman robbed

Shilpa (55), a resident of T.V. Samy Road, was robbed of her gold chain weighing about 30 gm by two unidentified persons on Thursday night.
Two more held
The police investigating the Renuka murder case have arrested Muneeswaran (32), and his friend Rajkumar (36). The police had already arrested Renuka’s husband Kulandaivelu (36), and his friend Muniraj.
The four conspired to finish off the woman. She was found murdered near her house on Wednesday.
