Investigation by Navi Mumbai police has revealed that a woman’s complaint claiming that her husband raped her in the presence of his brothers was fake. Police said she wanted to teach her husband a lesson.
On June 21, the complainant, a resident of Kopri village, said her husband Adil Mehboob Khan (27), whom she had abandoned two months ago, entered her house and raped while his brother Amir Khan (24) and cousin brother Ajeem Khan (23) filmed the act on a mobile phone.
Police Inspector Prafulla Bhingarde, APMC Police Station, said, “CCTV footage and call location of the alleged accused have a different story to tell. She claimed that her husband entered her house at 8 p.m., but CCTV footage has shown that her husband crossed Vashi toll naka from Navi Mumbai and had entered Mumbai. The location of her brothers-in-law based on mobile tracking has revealed they were also not in Navi Mumbai. We also did not find the video of the alleged rape on their mobile phones.”

According to the police, the woman was in a relationship with her husband’s cousin brother, Hussain, who is wanted by Shivaji Nagar police for attempting to murder Adil. Mr. Bhingarde said, “They wanted to eliminate her husband. Hussain has been absconding ever since he tried to kill Adil by striking him on his head.” The police said Adil is a tuberculosis patient and had been asked by his doctor to refrain from sexual intercourse. He used to visit his wife only to meet his three-and-a-half- year-old daughter. The Inspector said, “Once we gather all the evidence we will file a B-Summary report and the magistrate will direct the further course of action.” Adil and his two brothers run a bakery in Govandi.
