Mumbai: Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday commended the contributions made by the Union Bank of India towards nation building, as the bank celebrated its 100th foundation day. Established on November 11, 1919, the bank has a unique distinction of being blessed by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who inaugurated the bank’s corporate office in Mumbai.
The Union Finance Minister said that various schemes, like Make in India, Digital India, Jan Dhan Yojana, Jan Suraksha, Mudra, Stand-up India and Skill India, are all geared towards realising the aspirations of new India. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister of State for Finance, Shiv Pratap Shukla, and Dakshita Das, additional secretary, department of financial services in the finance ministry, also attended the Centenary celebrations.
Mr. Fadnavis expressed happiness that a Mumbai-born bank has completed a hundred years in service of the nation. He said that Maharashtra has emerged a leader in entrepreneurship, with his government making enabling ecosystem for business and enterprises. “Maharashtra is pursuing an investment-led growth and will remain a growth driver for India,” he said.
