Two suspects detained in Iqbal Kaskar case

Both are said to be close to Dawood

Mumbai: The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Thane Police Crime Branch detained two suspects late on Monday in connection with the extortion case registerd against Iqbal Kaskar, brother of global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.

The suspects were identified as Ahmed Langda (65) from Telli Galli in South Mumbai and Sana. The latter was picked up from outside Queen Mary Hotel in Mazgaon.

Mr. Kaskar and two others were arrested for extorting ₹30 lakh and four flats from a Thane-based builder in Dawood’s name. A Thane-based jeweller had subsequently filed a similar case against Mr. Kaskar. Police are looking for four others wanted in this case.

Police said Ahmed Langda is an accused in the 1993 blasts case. They said his elder brother Farooq, said to be close to Dawood, is reportedly living in Karachi. Crime Branch sources said he was detained based on information obtained during the interrogation of Mumtaz Sheikh, one of the two co-accused in the Kaskar case. “Ahmed Langda’s name had figured in the extortion case against Baba Siddiqui. Sana is also said to be close to Dawood.”

The police are investigating the extent of the two suspects’ involvment in Mr. Kaskar’s alleged extortion racket.
