The Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE), who was arrested on Thursday after a 32-year-old woman was run over and killed by an express train at the Jalgaon railway station, was granted bail by a local court on Friday.

In a press release, the Railway authorities claimed that the incident was an accident and the TTE was actually helping the lady to get inside the AC compartment.

“The nephew of the lady alleged that on duty conductor (S.G. Salunke) pushed the lady and she fell and got run over by the train which is not correct. CCTV footage indicates that the conductor was helping her. Unfortunately, she fell down and got run over by the train,” the release stated.

The release also said that contrary to the claims made by the victim's family that the accused was drunk, the medical report has stated otherwise. “The allegation that the TTE was drunk is wrong as breath analysis test conducted on the TTE found to be negative,” the release adds.

Railway officials also claim that after studying the CCTV footage it is clear that the lady passenger had sufficient time to board the train.

A furious mob stopped the train and dragged Mr. Salunkhe out of the compartment and assaulted him before handing him over to the police. Based on the nephew’s complaint an FIR was lodged under section 304 A of the IPC for death due to negligence and the TTE was taken into custody.
