Tired of frequent fights, a 33-year-old woman killed her husband while he was asleep at Ambedkar Nagar in Rabale MIDC, on Friday.

Swaminath Darade (35) married Kalinga eight months ago, and would often get into fights with her because of his addiction to alcohol. On Thursday too, they had a fight when Darade returned home.

“The couple fought till around 2 a.m. and Darade assaulted his wife. Later, once he slept, Kalinga took a ribbon, which she used to tie her hair, and strangulated him, ” police inspector Anil Patil said.

On Friday morning, when Darade’s mother, who lived on the ground floor, asked Kalinga about him, she said he was still asleep. “Later in the afternoon, when the mother went to the first floor of their hutment to dry clothes. She went to check on her son, and found him dead with a strangulation mark on his neck. Thinking that he had committed suicide, she informed the police,” Mr. Patil said.

However, after the police reached the spot, they realised it was a murder, and Darade’s wife confessed that she killed him out of frustration, he said. She was presented before the court on Saturday and was remanded in police custody till September 18.
