Nearly three weeks after jewellery worth ₹55 lakh was stolen from a shop in Nalasopara, three persons, including an employee, were arrested by the Nalasopara (East) Police on Saturday.
On August 23, Roop Singh Rajput (40), owner of Shivam Jewellers, had filed a complaint with the Nalasopara police saying when he went home for lunch that day, his store was looted by a man who threatened his employee with a revolver and knife.
According to the complaint, Rajput had gone home for lunch leaving his employee Mangusingh Rajput in charge of the shop. The shutters were also pulled down to half. Even as Rajput was working, one person, under the pretext of collecting a jewellery order entered the shop. As soon as Rajput turned to collect the order, the man took out a revolver and threatened to shoot him. He then looted ornaments from the showcase and took some cash. Rajput immediately sounded the siren and called the owner.

When Roopsingh Rajput came back, he found that jewellery worth ₹55 lakh and ₹28,000 in cash had been looted.
He approached the police who started their investigation by questioning Rajput. After his repeated interrogation and technical investigation, the police realised that the story put forth by him was false. Some knife marks, which he said he had sustianed when the robber attacked him, proved to self-inflicted.
Following this, the police arrested Mangusingh (32) and two of his accomplices, Naharsingh Rajput (27) and Chagannath Rawal (27). The police have also recovered ornaments worth ₹21 lakh.

All three have been charged under Section 408 (criminal breach of trust) and Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
