Mumbai: The Gamdevi police on Monday arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and damaging three other cars after losing control of his car.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. on Raghavji Road in Grant Road on Monday.
The police said the accused, Deepak Chopra (62), stays in a building on the same road and was on his way home when he lost control of his Ford Ikon car.

“The road is narrow, and there are several cars parked along both sides. The accused was driving towards his house when he suddenly picked up speed and ended up hitting three cars, before coming to a stop,” said Senior Police Inspector Netaji Bhopale.
The police said that Napean Sea Road resident Triloki Das, whose Innova was among the three cars damaged, confronted Chopra and an argument ensured between them, during which he allegedly threatened her. Meanwhile, local residents who witnessed the accident called up the police control room, which in turn alerted the Gamdevi Police, who sent a team to the spot.
Chopra was subsequently subdued and taken to Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central, where he underwent a medical check-up. His blood sample was taken for analysis. He was later taken to the police station and placed under arrest after Ms. Das filed a complaint against him.

“There was prima facie evidence to indicate that the accused was under the influence of alcohol, and we have booked him accordingly. It seems that he pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, which led to the accident. We are verifying this,” Mr. Bhopale said.
Chopra has been charged with rash diving, intentional insult and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, along with driving under the influence of alcohol under the Motor Vehicles Act. The police said the reports of his blood tests are still awaited.
