January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - MUMBAI:

Singer Ankit Tiwari has claimed in a petition filed before the Bombay High Court that the woman who had accused him of rape has agreed to amicably settle the matter.

An FIR was filed against Mr. Tiwari and his brother last year based on the woman’s complaint. She had also said that Mr. Tiwari’s brother threatened her with dire consequences if she tried to approach the singer again.

“Complainant /Respondent number 2 is not interested in prosecution and has expressed her willingness to quash the offence,” the petition filed by Mr. Tiwari and his brother stated. “Therefore, in the interest of justice, equity and fairness, FIR be quashed as no purpose would be served in continuing with the proceedings in the light of the compromise.” The woman said Mr. Tiwari had promised to marry her but later went back on his word. She said he raped her during the period between October 2012 and December 2013.
