The CBD Belapur police on Saturday booked a police sub inspector (PSI) attached with the Crime Branch (Unit-I) on charge of raping a woman police constable.
The woman constable said in her complaint that in March last year, PSI Amit Shelar raped her in his car at CBD Belapur after offering her a glass of spiked juice. The 31-year-old complainant alleged that he was blackmailing her using a video of the act.
The woman, who is posted at Koparkhairane police station and deployed at Motor Transport Department, said that she knew the accused as he was her colleague at Vashi police station in 2010.

Tushar Doshi, Deputy Commissioner, Crime Branch, said Mr. Shelar allegedly assaulted her when she refused his advances and repeatedly raped her in his car at CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Panvel and Kamothe from March 2017. An officer close to the sub inspector said, “It is a false case. The complainant’s husband works at a government-owned bank and he has pressured her to file the complaint. The complainant is his third wife and the first two wives were also constables. The alleged video does not exist. We are sure the FIR will get quashed in court.” A departmental enquiry will be initiated against the sub inspector.
The case has been registered under Sections 376 (2) (being a police officer commits rape) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with an intention to commit offence).
