A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Bombay High Court on Monday seeking compensation of ₹1 crore to the families of the deceased and ₹25 lakh to those injured in the collapse of the foot overbridge (FOB) near CSMT on March 14. Six people were killed and 31 were injured in the incident.

The PIL filed by advocate V.P. Patil said, “The compensation of ₹5 lakh to the families of the deceased and ₹25,000 to those injured is a mockery by the Maharashtra government.” The plea said, “Around ₹3,700 crore is lying with the government under the Disaster Management Act, which is meant for such incidents.”
Mr. Patil also demanded that all the erring Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials be charged with 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, and that the BMC reconstruct the FOB. The matter will be heard on Tuesday before a Division Bench of Justices Ranjit More and Bharati Dangre.
