Mumbai: Days after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that farm loan waiver would be announced in October, the State government on Wednesday formed a sub-committee to study the waiver package in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The six-member sub-committee will be headed by Pune divisional commissioner Chandrakant Dalvi and will also have members from the banking industry.
According to the government resolution issued on Wednesday, the sub-committee will study the waiver scheme announced by the three states and collect data on crop loan disbursement from commercial and district central cooperative banks.

The Chief Minister in the Assembly during the budget session had said that the government is studying the loan waiver package announced by the newly-elected Yogi Adityanath government in U.P.
Mr. Fadnavis had hinted that the government may announce ₹30,000 crore loan waiver package to 30 lakh farmers, who have been out of the banking credit system since 2012-13, in October. “Before October 31, the distressed farmers who need help will be given loan waiver. The modalities are being worked out and I can say with conviction that this will be the biggest loan waiver in Maharashtra’s history.”
