Now, Mekhail Bora seeks protection

Mumbai: In another twist in the Sheena Bora murder trial, main accused Indrani Mukerjea’s son, Mekhail Bora, has written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking protection as he “feels danger to his life.”

Mr. Bora is the third person in the case to seek protection. On April 23, Ms. Mukerjea had told the court she “fears for her life in prison” and on August 2, 2017, accused-turned-approver Shyamvar Rai got protection in jail after he faced a threat to his life.

Mr. Bora has said Hrishikesh Burgohain, Ms. Mukerjea’s lawyer in Guwahati, mentally harasses him and so he is scared for his life. In a letter to the CBI investigating officer, he said Mr. Burgohain had informed him that he was in touch with Ms. Mukerjea, and had informed the court in January 2018 that he did not want the probate for the will made by his grandmother Late Durga Ranee Bora. Mr. Bora said, “I stay all alone in this house (with) no one to help and I really fear for my life from Indrani Mukerjea. Sir, I feel really scared and helpless.”

On March 16, 2017, Ms. Mukerjea sought permission from the court to go to Guwahati saying the High Court there had asked her to appear as Mr. Bora wanted to execute the will made by her mother Durga Devi. The changed will of her parents – Upendra Bora and Durga Rani -- had disinherited Sheena from the ancestral property, giving her only a piece of the property at their daughter’s behest.
