MMRDA plans to extend metro to Mira Road, Bhayandar

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is considering extending the metro connectivity to the nearby areas of Mira Road and Bhayandar.

“We are examining the possibility of extending the metro connectivity to Dahisar, Mira Road and Bhayandar,” Pravin Darade, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, said in a statement on Sunday. This proposed new line could be an extension of Metro 2 (Dahisar to Andheri) or Metro 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri).

Mr. Darade, who was recently transferred from Nagpur, where he was heading the development of Nagpur metro projects, is monitoring several metro projects that the MMRDA has announced to enhance connectivity across Mumbai. Mr. Darade visited the 23.5-km Metro-2B (D.N. Nagar to Mankhurd) and the 33-km Metro-4 (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali) alignments along with top MMRDA officials over the weekend.

During this inspection, he visited Mandale and Owale at Kasarvadavali to understand the issues related to depot sites, land and resettlement, and rehabilitation of project-affected people, MMRDA officials said.

Metro-2B corridor is estimated at Rs. 10,986 crore, while Metro-4 corridor will involve capital expenditure of Rs. 14,549 crore.
