Gangster Kumar Pillai on Tuesday was sent to judicial custody till July 27 by the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court. Justice S.L. Anekar rejected the special public prosecutor’s plea seeking an extension of Mr. Pillai’s police custody for four days.

The prosecutor sought the custody on the basis that the gangster was not cooperating and that the police needed to take his voice samples.

Pillai has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Explosives Act, and the MCOCA.
