Nerul-Uran line: CRS inspection successful

Report awaited for inauguration date

The phase-I of the Nerul-Uran line was inspected using a trolley, on Tuesday, through the day.

Inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) of the phase I of the Nerul-Uran railway line, which was conducted on Tuesday has been successful. The official report is awaited to decide on the inauguration date, according to sources from CIDCO.

“The route was inspected using a trolley, on Tuesday from morning till evening. In the first round of inspection, there was a doubt about the height of the platform, but it was cleared in the second round,” Central Railway, PRO Anil Jain said. CRS Mr. Arvind Jain from the Civil Aviation Ministry had conducted the inspection along with CIDCO and railway officials.

A week back, a trial run on the route was carried out by the railways both ways between Nerul and Kharkopar and Belapur and Kharkopar, with no technical issues.

General public have been warned about an overhead line charged with 25,000 V, so they stay away from the railway line. The 12 km stretch of phase I, includes Targhar, Bamandongri and Kharkopar. Of these, the train will halt only at Bamandongri and Kharkopar.

Targhar will be handed over in 2019, as it will be under construction for 30 months. Being the nearest to the proposed airport, it will have an iconic structure with a parking area on the roof and commercial offices above it. “We have also planned a sky train connecting the station and airport. Once train services start, it will be difficult to put a slab over the station for parking, hence we are completing the basic structure before handing it over. Trains at Targhar will halt only after the completion of work,” CIDCO chief engineer (special projects) Sanjay Chotalia said.

The complete project is being developed under a cost sharing ratio of 67:33 between CIDCO and Central Railway and the total cost is estimated as ₹1,782 crore, of which ₹975 crore is being spent by CIDCO.
