Mumbai: The Tulinj police on Tuesday registered an FIR against Manish Singh for allegedly poisoning his wife and two daughters on Monday morning. This came after his wife Pinky gave a statement to the police.

Manish, Pinky and their daughters Pragati and Bitty were taken to a local hospital, where Manish and Pragati were declared dead before admission. Pinky and Bitty were shifted to Thane Civil Hospital.

“Pinky told us that she went to sleep late on Sunday night as she was not feeling well. She had told Manish that she had a headache and was retiring early. At around 4 am on Monday, Manish woke her up and told her that he had some medicines which would make her feel better. He then gave her a liquid substance and also gave it to their children before consuming it himself,” said senior inspector Kishore Khairnar, Tulinj police station.

The entire family went to sleep and a short while later, Pinky woke up due to discomfort and started vomiting blood. She tried to wake Manish and their daughters and when none of them woke up, she shouted for help, which attracted her neighbours’ attention.

The police have registered an offence of murder and attempt to murder under the Indian Penal Code. The reason behind Manish’s extreme step is unclear. On Monday, a suicide note was found in which Manish only said that he was ‘leaving with his wife and children’.

“Pinky is still in shock over losing her husband and daughter. We will later make detailed inquiries with her,” Mr. Khairnar said, adding that Pinky and Bitty are out of danger.
