City-based Yogayatan Group will lay the foundation stone of a port at Mankhurd on Friday. This mid-size terminal will be the second port in Mumbai. The all-weather port will have access to multiple cargos and aims to support industrial development in the region, a statement by the company said.

The port will be located at a distance of 100 metres from the Vashi Creek railway bridge and 10 nautical miles from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). The group has bought 10 acres of land for the port.

Yogayatan Group chairman Dr Rajendra Singh said: “The port will be operational in the next three months. With constant support from the Indian government, we will strive to expand operations of the port.”

The group is planning to develop the port in multiple phases.

It will have a multi-purpose cargo port for dry bulk cargo, a ship building and ship repair yard, thermal power plant, LNG terminal, container terminal, supply base and passenger terminal.

The facility is expected to complement the port in Mumbai in line with government’s policy to reduce congestion and pressure on existing ports.
