The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has proposed to build an L-shaped elevated deck at Mulund railway station, which will serve as the circulating area for commuters. It will also have booking offices,kiosks and eateries. The MVRC has shorlisted 19 stations for improvement projects, including Mulund station.

R.S. Khurana, chairman and managing director, MVRC, said, “Our initial designs didn’t include passenger amenities on an elevated deck. We will incorporate amenities such as food stalls wherever it is technically feasible on decks proposed.”
An MVRC official said the elevated deck, measuring nearly 20,000 sq.ft., will run the length of platform no. 1, and be accessible from all platforms. It has also been proposed to build a foot overbridge (FOB) connecting the deck to the road on the station’s east side, which will run between the existing FOBs. The deck will be connected to all FOBs.
Officials said ₹53 crore has been estimated for developing Mulund station, which is more than what has been estimated for the other 10 Central Railway stations for development of facilities. They also said plans could change, which would impact the cost factor.

Mulund station caters to 2.55 lakh commuters every day, and 25,000 per hour during the morning and evening peak.
The station improvement project is being carried out under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-3A (MUTP 3A) at an estimated cost of ₹880 crore: ₹505 crore for Central Railway stations and the remainder for eight Western Railway stations.
