Navi Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Wednesday burnt Pakistani flag and an effigy named Pakistan to protest the sentencing of death penalty to Kulbhushan Jadhav, on the Mumbai-Pune Highway at Panvel.
According to protesters, Mr. Jadhav had briefly stayed in a flat owned by his mother Avanti Patel at Old Panvel’s High Point CHS, in the name of Hussain Patel.
“The reason for choosing Panvel for the protest is he had stayed here some nine years ago. We couldn’t meet his mother as she doesn’t stay here, but I am sure even she would have supported this protest. Besides, we as Panvelkars want to show our support to him,” said MNS Panvel unit vice-president Yatin Deshmukh.

Meanwhile, the Panvel city police registered a case against Mr. Deshmukh and five others under Section 37 A (1) read with Section 135 of the Bombay Police Act, for protesting without permission. “The six accused were arrested and later released on bail,” said senior inspector Sunil Bajare of Panvel city police station.
