Independent MLA from Achalpur Bacchu Kadu’s allegedly assault on a government servant on Tuesday afternoon at Mantralaya led to a flash strike by all officers for a day.

Later in the evening, the Marine Drive police registered an FIR of assault and deterring a public servant from discharging his duty against Mr Kadu and his clerk Ashok Jadhav under the Indian Penal Code. The FIR was for assaulting BR Gavit, a deputy secretary of the General Administration Department.

A senior police officer said CCTV footage from Mantralaya would now be examined to ascertain the exact sequence of events and statements would be recorded from all parties and eyewitnesses.

Informing the Assembly about the incident, Revenue Minister Ekanth Khadse said the government has asked the chief secretary to probe the incident.
