A reinforcement cage, used in the construction of pillars, fell on a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus at a Metro 7 site in Kandivali (East) around 11.30 a.m. on Thursday.
The incident occurred near Thakur Complex on the Western Express Highway. No one was injured.
The bus was on its way to Bhayander from Dindoshi, when it crossed the site, where a three-metre-high cage was being fixed, said Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

“The reinforcement cage got slightly bent and touched the roof of the bus owing to sight constraints despite the provision of a wire sling block from all four sides. The MMRDA team working on the site immediately removed the pier reinforcement,” Mr. Kawathkar said.
However, BEST spokesperson Hanumant Gophane said the roof of the bus was damaged. Traffic officials said vehicle flow was held up due to the accident, but the congestion was cleared in around 15 minutes.
Sources said that as per protocol, the traffic should have been stopped while the mesh was being moved, since it is a safety hazard. MMRDA said that they initiated an inquiry into the matter immediately. A similar incident had occurred last year on the same corridor at the Aarey Junction on WEH.

The 16.5 km long Metro-7 corridor is being constructed along WEH from Dahisar to Andheri and is expected to be completed by 2019 at a ₹6,208 crore cost.
