Reason behind suicide still unclear

A head constable posted with the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sakinaka Division) was found to have committed suicide at his workplace on Wednesday night.

According to the Powai police, Sudhir Gurav (52), a resident of Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli (East), was found dead by two of his colleagues around 11 p.m.

“Gurav was in office when I left for home at night. My driver and operator dropped me home and returned to the office, which is when they found the body,” ACP Milind Khetle, Sakinaka Division, said.

Gurav was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, where he was declared dead before admission. No suicide note was found on his person and the reason for his suicide is unclear.

“He did not interact with his colleagues and mostly kept to himself. None of us are aware of any problems that he might have been facing which could have triggered the unfortunate incident,” Mr. Khetle said.

Officers said a post-mortem examination has found asphyxiation as the cause of death. “However, this is an interim report and we have sought a histopathology examination,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone X) Ankit Goyal said.
