The Central Bureau of Investigation and the Special Investigation Team of Maharashtra CID submitted their status report on the Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare murder case before the Bombay High Court on Friday.

A Division Bench of Justice S.C. Dharmadhikari and Justice B.P. Colabawalla was hearing petitions filed by family members of the rationalists seeking investigation. The court said a joint effort must be made by both agencies to trace the accused. The court said it did not expect the agencies to leave any loose ends in the probe and adjourned the matter to April 20.

Dabholkar was murdered in Pune in August 2013 by two unidentified gunmen. Pansare, a politician with the Communist Party of India, was attacked by gun-wielding assailants and died on February 20, 2015. He opposed inter-caste marriage and criticised the glorification of Nathuram Godse.
