Mumbai: A wagon of a freight train derailed near Diva on the Central Railway on Wednesday afternoon. All Up trains, towards Mumbai, on the fast track were diverted to the slow track between Diva and Thane. No injuries were reported.

“The accident relief team is working on a war footing to restore the line. We expect the operations to start soon. There will be a 10-15 minute delay on the slow track,” Sunil Udasi, chief PRO of the Central Railway, said.

The train was on its way to Turbhe and had crossed Diva. At around 3:45 p.m, the wagon, eleventh from the engine, derailed while entering the chord line after exiting Parsik tunnel, which lies between Diva and Kalwa.

Two local trains and a long-distance passenger train from Patna on their way to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus were behind the goods train on the same track, and were stuck as a result of the derailment.

Commuters of the local trains alighted onto the tracks and walked to the closest station, Diva. The long-distance train was reversed, and will be redirected to the slow track, according to railway officials.

The derailed wagon was put back on track at 7.30 p.m.
