The officers of Air Intelligence Unit at Mumbai airport recovered gold worth ₹1.12 crore in three separate seizures on Wednesday.
In the first incident, officers found two packets wrapped in black adhesive tape in the cavity behind the mirror in the rear toilet of Jet Airways flight 9W535 that arrived from Dubai at 7:45 p.m. Each packet contained five gold bars of 10 tolas each weighing 1.16 kg and valued at ₹34,80,000. The bars were seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
In another incident, the officers intercepted Nimisha Jentilal Gudhka, a wheelchair-bound passenger who arrived from Dubai by Jet Airways flight 9W 535. Gudhka, a native of Jamnagar in Gujarat, concealed eight gold bars weighing 660 gm and valued at ₹19,80,000, in his pocket and wallet. The passenger admitted possession, knowledge, concealment and recovery of the gold bars being smuggled into India without paying customs duty. Gudhka traded in electronics and office furniture in Kigali in Rwanda.

Past mid-night on Wednesday, the officers serached Jet Airways flight 9W067 that arrived from Bangkok and recovered 12 cut pieces of gold bars weighing 1.998 kg and valued at ₹59,94,000. Ravikiran Ghanshyambhai Gohel, of Anand in Gujarat and an Indian passport holder, was arrested. Gohel said he concealed the gold bars in the hollow pipe beneath seats 26A and 27A.
