Mumbai: A 35-year-old furniture dealer was found dead in his shop in Koparkhairane on Wednesday morning by an employee when he reported for work. The police suspect the involvement of another employee.

The victim, Ramhit Rikhiram Sharma (35), ran a second-hand furniture business at the timber market in Sector 9, Koparkhairane. He lived in the shop. An employee, Ehaiteshamul Maqbool Hassan, also stayed in the shop.

Around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Mahado Dhanpat Sharma reached the shop and found the shutter pulled down, but not locked. On entering the shop, he saw Ramhit lying in a pool of blood with a head injury. Hassan was not in the shop.

Mahado alerted Ramhit’s elder brother, Ramnivas, a resident of Desai village in Thane.

Ramnivas said, “My brother had been running his business for eight years. The shop was open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. The suspect, Hassan, was sacked from a business in Thane near my shop, after which I asked my brother to hire him. He joined my brother’s shop only 10 days ago. I have no idea what went wrong between them.”

“Hassan, being missing, is our prime suspect in the case. We have formed two teams to search for him,” Senior Police Inspector Satish Gaikwad said. A case of murder has been registered against Hassan.
